ZVI is a zero-valent iron powder engineered for in-situ chemical reduction (ISCR) of chlorinated solvents and other reducible contaminants in soil and groundwater. It is supplied in graded particle sizes to match site permeability and injection method.
How It Works
Reduction occurs directly on the iron particle surface in three stages: contaminants adsorb onto reactive sites, undergo chemical reduction at the surface, and reaction products desorb and are released back into groundwater.
Surface area alone does not determine performance — sustained reactivity over time matters more. ZVI is formulated to maintain consistent reaction activity long after injection, where many competing iron powders lose the majority of their activity within roughly 200 hours.
Applications
- Chlorinated solvent groundwater plumes (PCE and related compounds)
- General ISCR site remediation
Advantages
- Sustained reactive lifespan versus competing iron powders
- Four standard particle grades plus custom formulation
- Proven performance against PCE under field conditions
